I just started calling it an "Idea Notebook" about two minutes ago. As you probably already guessed it’s a notebook where you jot down all your ideas, EVEN the seemingly absurd ones can prove to be extremely beneficial. For every hundred bad ideas you have, there is always a possibility that at least one of them will be a good one. Here are some recommendations for your notebook:
· Write ALL your ideas no matter how insignificant they may seem at the time.
· Make sure you do it for yourself, not to impress or show off to others.
· Have fun and embrace the messiness of your thoughts in this notebook.
· Don't worry about spelling or grammar, the goal is to capture your ideas.
· Use a cheap, low-quality notebook to take the pressure off of keeping it clean and pretty. You'll want to carry this notebook with you, and it won't matter if it gets a bit beat up.
· When you are brainstorming, it's helpful to develop your ideas by drawing, making mind maps, creating lists, or anything else that aids in your creative process.
· Feel free to personalize it! You can decorate the cover and add stickers to make it unique to your style.
It is true that initially, you may not come up with many good ideas, but once you develop a habit of jotting down your thoughts, you will eventually stumble upon some ideas that you like.
The seed of an idea can sprout from anything - a dream, a vision, a line, or even a word. For example, the other day I had a vision of a girl applying her makeup and that led me to develop a compelling idea for a short film.
So, let's stop discouraging ourselves by saying "I don't have any good ideas" or "I lack creativity" and start writing!
