Confidence and Breaking Our Own Promises

As you probably already noticed I never uploaded the first review for our FridayFilm Club. Right now, I could start making excuses on why I didn't do it, or even easier, I could just delete the post, but I'm going to try and be honest with myself. I didn't do it because I was lazy and I didn't feel all that excited about watching 'Lost in Translation'. All of this has made me realize that we tend to value the promises we make to other people more than the ones we make to ourselves. But why does this happen, and how can we keep our own promises?

The answer to the first part of the question is simple, yet complex; we tend to prioratize other people more than ourselves and this is why our expectations of ourselves are always higher than the ones we have for other people which, translates into promises.

For the second part of the question, the solution lies in these two interconnected steps:

1. Making Realistic Promises to Ourselves:

Even if they're not as cool and organized as commiting to uploading a review every Friday.

2. Embracing our Journey:

Doing things our own way at our own pace, which requires confidence in ourselves. Taking baby-steps, doesn't sound as amazing as extremely high goals but in the long run it's better for our overall well-being. For example, not going from not writing reviews to suddenly writing a review every Friday.

Sometimes we have to let go of our ego and embrace our messines, this is why I would like to mention the enlightening interview with Emma Chamberlain that I watched today. The interviewers were very interested in how she's always so honest in her videos and, after watching a bunch of them, it's incredible how confident she is in herself, I think we should all aspire to be unapologetically ourselves, even if it's not as pretty.

We must make realistic promises to ourselves and enjoy the journey with all it's mistakes, in order to achieve our goals. Therefore, I will write whatever I feel like writing. Even if it sucks, which it doesn't, as long as it makes me happy. At the end of the day, the only person I'm truly doing this for is myself.
